Wendy showed great understanding and compassion toward me and always went above and beyond the call of duty.
My son was admitted to the ICU at Banner Estrella. He had severe health issues and had been in and out of hospitals, especially recently. This time seemed more urgent, which proved to be true as he was put on life support just a few days later and passed away. He was only 46 years old. While I was impressed with the entire staff at Banner Estrella, nurse Wendy MacDonald was a light in my darkest days—words cannot convey the magnitude of the appreciation I feel toward Wendy. I will forever be grateful to her. Wendy was my son's on-call nurse when he was first admitted to the ICU, and she took such delicate care of him. She was patient and gentle. In the following days, she was assigned to other patients on the unit, and while my son was not in her direct care, she took the time to check in on him while tending to her other patients.
When my son was put on life support, and I was faced with impossible decisions and overwhelmed by the various options doctors were presenting, Wendy was there to keep me grounded, help me breathe, stay focused, and review my options in a manageable way. Wendy showed great understanding and compassion toward me and always went above and beyond the call of duty. Having worked my career at a hospital and closely with staff, I can say with the utmost confidence that Banner Estrella has an exceptional employee in Wendy! She is one in a million and deserves all the accolades. I do not know how I would have survived those tough days without her kindness and support.
