People look for her face to come through the doors, and it is always welcome.
Megan Baker is one of the most exceptional nurses that I have ever had the pleasure of working alongside. She is passionate, dedicated, and goes above and beyond what is expected daily. When fellow nurses find themselves unfamiliar, under any scenario, she always finds an answer or solution.
She cares personally for every patient and supports every nurse. She readily jumps in to assist with patient care and patient needs such as transporting to tests, assisting with bedside procedures, rapid responses, and codes. She provides just enough assistance to her staff that it is always viewed as beyond helpful and never intrusive.
People look for her face to come through the doors, and it is always welcome. This, while juggling the tasks associated with her office duties. She is the first person staff look to in a multitude of settings because she is always present and supportive, and viewed as one of the first people to always respond. The number of times various team members call "looking for Megan" is staggering and a reflection of her skill and guidance.
She encourages staff's growth and development by involving them in procedures to heighten their own knowledge base, skill set, and comfort level. I will say that from what I have witnessed, Megan holds the utmost respect and esteem from not only her co-workers, but also the physicians and residents. I feel comfortable saying on behalf of the entire interdisciplinary team that Megan is a true asset, and it would be hard to imagine our hospital system without her.
I've often wondered if she realizes the extent to which she is valued and appreciated because she's so quick to move on and help the next person; she never has time to experience the gratitude. She is always doing her best and what's best for her staff and their patients to ensure the best outcome for all.
Quick story: We recently had an unexpected expiration in the ICU. The family was beyond distraught and had various requests to have keepsakes of their loved one. Megan purchased the most beautiful heart-shaped glass bottles so we could print and insert the ECG tracing of their family members' final heartbeats. They were beautiful and cherished and an absolute aid in helping them process the trauma of this occurrence. It gave them something to hold on to, making them still feel a part of their mother would always be with them. Thank you, Megan, for your compassion.
