Without being asked, she took photos throughout my labor and delivery on both my husband’s and my phones, leaving us with precious memories of the birth of our first child—moments we wouldn’t have had without her.
Our baby was born at 35 weeks, and we were not ready for him to come when my water broke. We are first-time parents, and I was so scared when we arrived at the hospital. Kayla was with us for the first and second night while I was in labor. She was so kind and comforting. My husband thought we already knew each other outside the hospital because she was friendly and cared about helping me. The second night I was in labor, seeing a familiar face was a relief. I told her how glad I was to see her again and was so touched when she requested to be with me. I know she sees women like me every day giving birth all the time, but I felt like she cared about me as an individual. She even came to see us when I was recovering on the 5th floor and encouraged and congratulated us. I wish every mom could have her while they are in labor. She is amazing.

After a terrifying week in the hospital and the loss of one twin, I went into labor prematurely in the middle of the night. Kayla was my nurse and was supportive, kind, compassionate, and empowering throughout the process. She fed me ice chips, shared her own stories of loss in support of us, stayed beyond her shift to see us through the birth, and coached me through the entire thing. I genuinely can’t imagine what the experience may have been like without her. She also came to visit and check on me the next day. Through such an anxious and traumatic time, she was such a bright light.

Kayla’s friendly and engaging personality made a significant difference during a pivotal time for our family. As a first-time mom, my labor and delivery experience was entirely new and daunting for both my husband and me. Kayla’s exceptional care and dedication transformed what could have been an overwhelming process into a positive and memorable experience that we will cherish forever.

From the moment she introduced herself, Kayla was incredibly attentive and ensured we felt supported every step of the way. She explained everything happening clearly and compassionately, helping us feel confident and informed throughout the process.
What touched us most was Kayla’s genuine care and thoughtfulness. Without being asked, she took photos throughout my labor and delivery on both my husband’s and my phones, leaving us with precious memories of the birth of our first child—moments we wouldn’t have had without her. This selfless act was above and beyond anything we could have expected, and it meant the world to us.
Kayla also demonstrated incredible sensitivity and respect regarding my husband’s comfort level. Knowing he is squeamish around medical procedures, she involved him meaningfully while respecting his boundaries. She struck the perfect balance, making sure he felt included without overwhelming him.
Thanks to Kayla's knowledge, professionalism, and compassionate care, my labor and delivery experience was far more enjoyable and positive than I ever could have imagined. She is a remarkable nurse who exemplifies everything the DAISY Award represents: Excellence, compassion, and going above and beyond for her patients.
Kayla will forever hold a special place in our hearts for her role during one of the most critical moments of our lives. Our son is incredibly fortunate to have such a talented and caring individual on their labor and delivery team.
