Emily was kind, professional, sensitive to my needs, friendly, and comforting. She anticipated all my needs while I was under her care. She was my night nurse for the first and second nights of my stay. She left me alone to sleep and didn’t bother me when I didn’t need assistance, but was still sure to check on me periodically without disturbing my sleep, and came immediately when I pressed my call light. She was respectful and sensitive to my personal comfort needs as a woman. She went above and beyond in assisting me with providing all the supplies I needed to help cleanse and soothe my skin. She was just so incredibly helpful to me! She also offered me snacks after hours without having to ask, anticipating that I would be hungry due to monthly cravings and also because I had been NPO for testing earlier in the day. She brought me pretzels and chips as I had asked her for, but included oatmeal bars, which are my favorite. I told her that I loved the bars and thanked her for bringing me some. She said that she had a feeling that I needed one!

The next day, I asked for more night snacks, including those tasty oatmeal bars. I was eating my snacks and realized that I had two oatmeal bars. Emily had brought me two bars, even though I didn’t ask for two. She just somehow knew I needed two bars that night! She also noticed when I started to drink more water, and she brought me two waters instead of just one, so I would have enough without having to ask again and again. Emily was just amazing! I have not met a nurse quite like her who continually surprised and delighted me with her ability to anticipate my needs and understand what I would want before I even knew or asked for it. Her interactions with fellow staff also showed her commitment to not only the patients but to her co-workers in all positions. Even as a charge nurse, overseeing essentially the whole floor operations, she didn’t let that disrupt her care for me one iota. If anything, she was even more attentive to me when she was the change nurse, as if to ensure me that she was still equally available and committed to my care, despite her responsibility for the whole floor that night.

Emily brings a smile, peace, comfort, joy, and a light to people who are hurting, uncomfortable, scared, and discouraged. She brought holistic healing and care by attending to my physical, emotional, and mental needs as a patient. She is a gem and deserves all the recognition for her selfless service to the hospital and its community. Thank you, Emily! You are a blessing, and I’m so grateful that I was able to be a recipient of your care. I won’t forget the extraordinary TLC you gave me during my stay in your unit. I could go home to my family feeling rejuvenated and healthy, in large part to you.
