Ann-Marie made a difference in her patient’s life, creating beautiful memories for her patient and her family.
I want to nominate Ann-Marie George, RN, for the DAISY Award. Ann-Marie consistently demonstrates numerous considerate and empathetic actions towards her patients. This weekend, I worked with Ann-Marie, and she was the nurse for a patient who was chair/bed bound and had never experienced snow. During our shift, a snowstorm occurred, and Ann-Marie walked outside with two cups, filling them with snow. When she tried to come back in, she got locked out and had to walk the entire way around the hospital to the other entrance without a jacket. Ann-Marie put the snow in a basin and brought it to the patient. As soon as the patient saw it, the excitement and joy on her face were evident. Ann-Marie formed snowballs and touched them to the patient’s skin. She told the patient that as a kid, she used to eat snow, and she took a bite; so did the patient. The patient was beaming with joy! Ann-Marie went further to move the patient’s bed so it faced the window and sat with the patient while she watched the snow fall and people clear the parking lot. Ann-Marie learned that the patient’s children had never seen snow either. She helped her Facetime the patient’s children so they could watch the snow together and see their mom’s smile. Ann-Marie shed tears over the experience and shared as much joy that day as her patient did. Ann-Marie made a difference in her patient’s life, creating beautiful memories for her patient and her family. What she did touched my heart. There was so much happiness and wonder in that room because of Ann-Marie’s act of compassion. It was beautiful to watch and experience, and I feel her actions show the heart of a nurse and a DAISY Award recipient.

I want to nominate Ann-Marie George for a DAISY Award. Ann-Marie is always kind and compassionate towards her patients, but this weekend, she went above and beyond in her nursing care. Ann-Marie demonstrated the purest form of compassion for another human being, and we were privileged to witness it. She went out of her way to let her patient experience snow, something this patient had never seen or felt before. Ann-Marie went outside, collected snow, and dumped it into a basin, then took it to her patient. The patient was so excited! She squealed with happiness! She felt the snow, and Ann-Marie made little snowballs, touching them to her skin. Afterwards, Ann-Marie turned the bed to face the window and stood with her patient while she watched it fall; the patient was so excited by the people clearing the parking lot! Ann-Marie helped the patient Facetime her family so they could see the snow and experience their mother’s joy. This particular patient does not have an excellent prognosis, and it is remarkable that, while hospitalized, her nurse helped her experience something so special. She also took the time to give this patient’s family a memory that they can cherish! I wish everyone could experience the pure joy and happiness that the patient and Ann-Marie had that day. You could not walk into that room without feeling goosebumps and remarkable happiness.
