Holly was caring for a patient who was often in the hospital due to a chronic illness and anemia. All the patient wanted was some decent food. Holly went through the usual procedure of ordering the patient a tray, but there was a delay, and she couldn’t make a special request for the patient since they were in the Emergency Room.

“Instead of just waiting, Holly went out of her way to order and pay for a full meal for the patient. She brought it back to the patient as if it were a standard meal delivered by dietary staff. The patient was so grateful but had no idea his nurse purchased his meal with her own money,” the nominator says. “It is often that nurses go out of their way to do kind things for their patients, but not often that they do so silently. This is just one small example of the kind and generous character that Holly demonstrates daily.”
