Last week 4-North Telemetry received a Team DAISY Award for their role in facilitating a wedding for a terminal patient on their floor. Colleagues from multiple departments supported the 4-North team to make this day happen and were also honored for their contributions.
The day of the wedding, the 4-North team worked hard to support the couple’s dream to get married before the patient passed. The couple wanted to get married in the chapel, but because of health concerns, several team members attended the wedding to ensure they could continue to monitor the patient’s condition.
Father Amos stepped up, went to the courthouse, and picked up the marriage license personally for the couple and later performed the ceremony. During the ceremony, the staff divided and conquered. Some stayed to witness the ceremony while others turned the patient’s 4-North room into a reception hall. This included a wedding cake, flowers, sparkling cider, and additional décor so the patient and family could celebrate the occasion.
“This is just one example of how our 4-North Telemetry team works together to enrich the lives of our patients and their families,” says the nominator. “We are ultimately blessed to share in the joys of the healing spirit of nursing.”
