I have always believed that it’s not necessarily the hospital that's great or not great, but the nurses, doctors, and staff who treat the patient that make a hospital great. This rings true as my elderly dad was admitted to St. Francis Hospital in Colorado Springs. While the nurse and the CNA who were finishing up their shift were both fantastic, it was Angelica Garcia who truly went above and beyond for my dad. My dad came into the hospital after seeing an eye doctor about his loss of vision in one eye. His eye doctor told him he had a “mini-stroke,” a TIA, and to go to the ED immediately. Once admitted to the 5th floor, Angelica took over as his nurse that evening and throughout the night. She examined him thoroughly and kindly and elaborately answered any questions we had. She ensured he had water, Kleenex, a toothbrush, toothpaste, and wipes. Since my dad had just had his eyes dilated that day, she did not take any chances, setting the bed alarm when he would get up and adding a “Fall Risk” band to his wrist. I can’t tell you how much I appreciated knowing that she took extra precautions with my dad. She ensured he had everything he needed and was comfortable. My doctor had ordered an MRI for my dad, and Angelica made sure my dad would be comfortable getting this test done. My dad, being claustrophobic, told her this, and she relayed it to the doctor. The doctor gave my dad Xanax to calm him down, making the MRI bearable for my dad. I could seriously go on and on about how amazing and lovely Angelica was to my dad. It’s easy to see that Angelica not only loves what she does but also performs her job with love, care, and integrity.
