After becoming a Clinical Coordinator, we no longer work directly with patients daily. I know that if Sonia were still on the floor with patients every day, she would receive multiple Daisy nominations. Sonia embodies all the core qualities of a Common Spirit and an exceptional RN. She is one of the hardest-working, most caring nurses I have ever had the pleasure of working with. Sonia cares deeply about all her coworkers, going to great lengths to ensure a smooth night shift by setting up the team and staying involved throughout. She hardly sits down once to ensure everyone receives their lunches and breaks and helps as many people as possible. She will take on patients when it's safe and assist everyone, no matter how minor the task may seem. When she transitioned from nights to days, our night crew still spoke fondly of how much we missed Sonia, and as the new CNC on nights, I had some big shoes to fill. Even though it was a challenging task, Sonia and I worked together for four years on nights, and we formed such a great team. I know she would always set me up for success and support me even when I was on different shifts.

Every patient I round on that Sonia has cared for or taken care of afterward has nothing but amazing things to say about her, mentioning how kind, patient, and knowledgeable she is. Her positive, energetic attitude makes it a pleasure not only to work with her but also to follow her on the next shift. Every time I shadow Sonia when she's in charge, I know she not only sets me up for a successful outcome but also strives to ensure everything gets done. She even helps with night shift tasks if she knows it's going to be a tight or busy night for us. Those qualities are so rare, and she has become a leader and mentor in our unit and for me. I like to joke that I could never compare myself to Sonia because there's no winning, but truly, I strive to be as positive, hardworking, and intelligent as she is. It's an honor to have someone I can look up to and go to for advice, and I hope to be as good as her one day! Sonia has such a love for her job, and it shines through every day.
