I came in with my 9-year-old son, who was in respiratory distress and very sick. After checking in, we waited in the waiting room for triage. Jesse quickly escorted us into the ER and, with a warm and calm demeanor, began asking us questions while getting my son connected to the vital signs machine. Jesse also immediately applied oxygen. Once he was prepared for the doctor and given oxygen to assist his breathing, C was handed off to the care team- the Doctor and his nurse, Jesse.

Jesse displayed a calm demeanor and addressed C with respect and compassion in a calm and kind manner. He took the time to explain things to C in a way that made sense to a 9-year-old. He took the care to not share "scary" information about C's condition in front of C, but also did it in a way that didn't make C think he was talking about him. Jesse was supportive and kind to C throughout his stay and encouraging about the transfer. He also worked in an expedited manner to assure C was ready for transport to a higher level of care. For how ill C was and as serious as his situation was, everyone around us remained calm, cool, and collected, and acted swiftly, while treating each of us with dignity, respect, and compassion.

As a nurse myself, it is not easy to be on the patient side of things and feel helpless when your child is suffering in a way that you can't resolve easily. I was grateful that everyone gave me the room and respect to help where I could. We are truly grateful to have had such a positive experience during a scary time.
