He saw my husband sleeping all curled up, cold on the bed, and brought blankets and pillows and tucked him in while he slept (we never asked for it), a small gesture… but one that brought me to tears as I was so overwhelmed that night.
My 7th-month-old wouldn’t stop projectile vomiting, which required a trip to the ER. Our nurse came in upon our arrival and started his work/assessment immediately. He hooked the baby up to the monitors and assisted us in every area. However, I would like to nominate him because he went above and beyond. He saw I was stressed and comforted me that he had administered IVs to babies frequently and nothing would happen, and sure enough, he was able to get it hooked up first try. He was very efficient and focused.

He kept frequently checking in on us, which I don’t understand because I could hear how extremely busy he was running around the ER assisting patients with the quickest efficiency and gentle care. (The ER was overflowing.)

We were admitted so they could monitor our baby but no rooms were available. He brought a huge comfortable recliner for me and the baby, knowing we would have to spend a lot of time without a room. He brought me Gatorades and kept checking on us. He saw my husband sleeping all curled up, cold on the bed, and brought blankets and pillows and tucked him in while he slept (we never asked for it), a small gesture… but one that brought me to tears as I was so overwhelmed that night. He kept trying to get us a room and was finally successful in getting a private ER room where we could have a little peace.

All the medical staff were kind and caring and helpful… but he was who I felt I could count on that night. And with how busy the ER was, knowing that there was someone looking out for my family and baby, is what we needed to feel safe and comfortable in a very uncomfortable situation. Thankful for that…and this man.
