Maddie is always going above and beyond for us (like I’m sure she does for all of her patients and their families).
Maddie was one of our very first cardiac nurses after my son was born. He had a postnatal diagnosis of multiple CHD’s. Maddie helped my husband and | feel normal in a time where our lives were turned upside down. There was very little we had control over when it came to our son because of his diagnosis and the complications that came with it. Maddie taught us about every medicine he was given, what each one was called and what they all did, and how to administer them. She was there to support any way we needed, even in the ways we didn’t realize we needed. My husband and | were struggling to figure out where we fit into our sons care team, because everyone else was taking care of him for us. Maddie took the time to talk to us and figured out that we just wanted to be his parents and be able to take care of him, and that we wanted his newborn phase to be as normal as possible, in a very abnormal situation. She taught us how to change his diapers around the wires and tubes/lines he had, let us give his meds when we felt comfortable to do so, and while she was constantly checking on us, she also gave us time to just be a family. Our son is now almost 15 months old, and Maddie still checks on him regularly. Maddie is always going above and beyond for us (like I’m sure she does for all of her patients and their families). Most recently, while admitted he had an episode of projectile vomiting and it got all over me. After we got him taken care of, | was just going to change my clothes. Maddie went and got everything | could need to be able to take a shower, that way | wouldn’t have to have smell like throw up all day. Maddie had multiple patients that day and still went out of her way to make sure a parent of one of her patients was taken care of when she definitely didn’t have to. We are forever grateful for everything Maddie has done for our family, and especially for him; and we always know that he will be well taken care of any day that she is his nurse. We'll never be able to say enough, but, THANK YOU MADDIE!
