My father-in-law was emergently transferred from Mercy STL to Barnes after a sudden cardiac arrest while awaiting triple bypass surgery. After making it through the placement of ECMO and a temporary pacemaker in the middle of the night, our family was emotionally exhausted. At 7:00 a.m., Ashley Davis, RN, walked into the room. Ashley's kindness, compassion, and obvious passion for her job were so calming for our family. Ashley eased our minds and helped us feel hope when it was really hard to see. After two weeks of fighting a really tough battle, we lost my father-in-law. It just so happened that Ashley was our nurse for his final day. Ashley was amazing. I literally cannot say enough words about how great she was during the end of life. Ashley's presence again helped calm our family. She was so patient with all of us, kind, and beyond caring. I can honestly say that the one person we will forever remember from this terrible storm of losing my father-in-law is Ashley. She was definitely put on this earth to care for people, and we will forever be grateful for her.
