Congratulations to the Transitional Care Unit (TCU) team at PIH Health Good Samaritan Hospital (PHGSH) for earning the DAISY Award! Together, this team went above and beyond the traditional role of nursing and medicine to bring comfort to a young hospice patient and their family.
When the patient and their fiancé shared that they were planning to wed prior to the patient’s cancer diagnosis and wished they could still get married, the TCU team collaborated to make the patient’s wish come true. From the coordination of the wedding event and hiring of the officiant, to the styling of the patient’s hair and makeup and wedding decorations – each member of the TCU team played a special role.
The patient was wed at bedside, surrounded by loved ones and the TCU team. The team continued their compassionate care as they transitioned the patient home on hospice, where the patient eventually passed away surrounded by spouse and family. Thank you to the PHGSH TCU team for helping this family celebrate their love and creating beautiful and peaceful moments for the patient and family that will be cherished forever.
