Nurse Michael brought his guitar from home for the patient to play.
Michael Roche was caught in the act of going above and beyond for a patient who has been on the unit quite some time, pending guardianship. He noticed this patient had on soiled clothing, and he took the patient's clothing and washed it for the patient. During his conversation with the patient, he learned the patient was previously a musician in a band and played guitar and keyboard. The patient loves music and keeps a book with music and lyrics at the bedside. Nurse Michael brought his guitar from home for the patient to play. In preparation, he also brought in nail clippers and clipped the patient's nails so he could easily play the guitar. The patient was so happy that he spent the day serenading the staff. Nurse Michael always makes a meaningful connection with his patients, and this has a positive impact on the patient experience.

He was an exceptional nurse today with my mom and me. He trained me on how to take care of her when she gets discharged. His knowledge and patience are an understatement. He takes the mission statement to heart, treating everyone with respect.

Not only does Michael Roche give the best medical care, he's very adept at rendering the best spiritual care. When I first met and talked with him, there was a certain energy he exuded that differentiated him from others. As I got to know him better, I could feel his positive energy increasing. He is a very genuinely empathetic person who goes out of his way to ascertain that his patient is in the right hands. He has been bringing his guitar to my room for some time now, knowing that my practicing time is the most therapeutic activity I can undertake. I am very grateful for his role in making this happen. He has also helped me with my laundry and many other tangible situations. However, spirituality is an intangible experience that isn't easy to come by in today's technological society. Nurse Michael is a natural when it comes to being the best at both tangible and intangible excellence.

No dinner found, so he tracked it down on the 3rd floor. He kept checking on me and helped me get things I couldn't find by going back to my old room two times. He was very attentive, and I felt I was not just a number but a patient. He is a real nurse and not just here for a paycheck.

Michael knew that my dad likes music, so he went to the pediatric department and got a little guitar and had him try to strum the guitar a little bit. Up until the hospital stay, he was still playing a bit in the memory care unit. That was one of the sweetest gestures! Also, he found channels on TV that he thought he would like with music. His overall demeanor was one of caring and calming in nature. Always there for a few minutes to listen or let us know what was happening.
