Sondra was the first nurse I encountered who felt like she was on our side. She was determined to help us advocate for and care for my grandma.
Sondra took care of my gran in late November. My grandma has had a significant decline in her health since August and we have really struggled to find the cause and get some help to find answers. It has felt both lonely and overwhelming.
We have been to the hospital 5 or 6 times over the last two months, and Sondra was the first nurse I encountered who felt like she was on our side. She was determined to help us advocate for and care for my grandma. She kept track of the tests that needed to be done and even held a provider accountable for doing their part in my grandma's care plan. Sondra listened to us, she listened to my grandma, and she did everything that she could to help us find answers in the two days she cared for us, while she advocated for my grandma's mobility. She made sure PT & OT were able to evaluate her.
As a nurse myself, I felt like Sondra was the embodiment of what nurses should stand for; how they should work within the nursing profession. It has been so difficult being the family member of a patient instead of the nurse, but after experiencing so many nurses and doctors over the last few months, Sondra was a gift I will never forget. She jumped into our corner, determined and willing to fight WITH US for my grandma. She is an asset to Banner Gateway. I feel so fortunate to have crossed her path and so grateful she was assigned to be my grandma's nurse. Thank you, Sondra!!
