Her swift and decisive action helped save the patient’s life.
Ms. Morgan Sigler, a UAB Nursing student, demonstrated nursing excellence and leadership in a selfless way that was a natural response for her. During one of her FNP fall semester clinical rotations, Ms. Sigler recognized that a patient was experiencing cardiac arrest at the clinical site. She implemented and led CPR efforts until the paramedics arrived. She did what was natural for her as a nurse. She exemplified leadership at the highest level, which resulted in a positive outcome for this patient. This action is described in more detail below in the email correspondence submitted to us by her preceptors.

Morgan and I are the only two with emergency backgrounds. She was absolutely invaluable today, and I probably told her a dozen times how happy I was to have her today, since we have not had a cardiac arrest in our clinic in the nearly 3 years I have been here since moving from an ED role.

What a wonderful example of the excellence of our Blazer FNP students, and why they are valued across the country. Morgan represented us well!

During her fall semester clinical rotation, Morgan recognized a patient in cardiac arrest and immediately implemented and led CPR efforts until paramedics arrived. Her swift and decisive action helped save the patient’s life. Morgan's preceptors shared that she went above and beyond what was expected of a clinical student. Despite not being an employee and having no obligation to intervene, she sprang into action without hesitation when an emergency arose. Her leadership and calm response were critical in achieving a positive outcome.
