Jenny Seekings was my husband's nurse. He was recovering from a laparoscopic colon resection due to colon cancer. Several days into his recovery, she noticed he was reporting more discomfort, and both his fever and his blood pressure were elevated.  She communicated immediately to the surgeon, who came in to see him.  The decision was made to take the patient to have a CT scan in order to determine what was going on in his abdomen.  She was able, despite all her other patients and duties, to be incredibly attentive to my husband's well-being, and even accompanied him to the CT.  When he was brought back to the floor, she continued to communicate actively with the surgeon, and we believe she was instrumental in the decision to take him into surgery on an emergent basis.  This was the evening of Good Friday, and it was clear to me that had anyone decided to "wait and see", the outcome would have been quite a bit more serious.  Jenny Seekings' dedication to patient care and her willingness to go above and beyond what is required of her as an RN in this hospital setting was not the end of my husband's medical journey.  She did, however, make certain that nothing was going to fall through the cracks on her watch. We will both be forever indebted to her for her excellent work and her above-and-beyond caring.  We therefore nominate her for the DAISY Award.

Jenny was our attending nurse from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM one day.  In addition to providing superb care for my partner, who had experienced his first seizure a day before - one of the most terrifying moments in our lives - Jenny offered excellent insight into what the job of a nurse entails.  After observing Jenny's can-do attitude, her dedication to all of her patients and their needs (my boyfriend, specifically), and her excellent strategy for solving problems - technical AND clinical - I found myself beyond impressed with her ability to perform the incredibly multi-faceted tasks of nursing.  I found myself, one who does not belong to a specific career path, taken with her ability to juggle several patients, their needs, and their care.  Jenny not only provided leadership to her CNAs but was proactive in answering our questions regarding my partner's health.  Having watched Jenny's professionalism and understanding of both being a patient and providing care to others has given me a reason to pursue a career in medicine.
