She is a compassionate and caring nurse, so much that she is willing to put her own feelings second to help her patient through this difficult time.
I was at South Nampa Emergency Department to meet with one of our Security Protection Officers. When I arrived, I was informed there may be a very angry father on his way to the hospital. I asked what the issue was. The man's daughter was in the ED with an injured toe. The mother, his estranged wife, had a No Contact Order (NCO) against the father and stated he was not allowed to visit or be provided any information. The father called the ED multiple times trying to get information about his daughter and was very angry when he was not given the information he asked for. I asked medical staff if they had seen the NCO. They stated they had not seen it. I explained we needed to verify there was an NCO if the father was denied information. RN Gina Thompson told me she would speak with the mother, as she had been through a similar circumstance five years ago. Gina entered the room and spoke with the mother. She spent a great deal of time with her. When Gina exited the room, I asked if she was able to verify there was an NCO. She stated the mother had it on her phone and it was active. Gina further stated she spoke with the mother for a long time about the NCO. She explained exactly what it was, how it works, and what she should expect to happen. She also provided her with the address of the Women and Children's Crisis Center in Nampa and provided other resources for the mother. Gina was able to draw on personal experience to calm, support, and educate this mother at a very bad time in her life. By doing this, she had to put herself in a very vulnerable place. When Gina replayed to me what she said and did to help this individual, she became emotional and teared up, showing where she had to go inside to help this individual. This selfless act of kindness needs to be recognized. She checked 4 of the 5 boxes (Compassionate Care, Extraordinary Service, Outstanding Role Model, and Patient and Family Oriented Care). RN Gina Thompson displayed exactly what the St. Alphonsus' Core Values and ICARE stands for. She is a compassionate and caring nurse, so much that she is willing to put her own feelings second to help her patient through this difficult time. Thank you for your consideration.
