Her words brought so much comfort to me in that moment, and they have continued to bring me comfort throughout the loss of our daughter.
I went into preterm labor and was transferred to L&D, where we met Ali, who was such a blessing to us and has held such a vital role when we tell our daughter's story. It was an overwhelming and scary several hours we experienced while in L&D, but Ali was so kind and comforting to me the whole time. As soon as she heard my family and me speaking the name of Jesus and constantly redirecting our thoughts and words to the Lord, Ali shared with me something I will never forget. First off, she told me it was okay to cry which is exactly what I needed to hear. But she also said to me, You are here for a reason. That doesn't make this right or okay, but there is a reason. We didn't know this was going to happen, but Jesus did, and thank goodness He knew. And thank goodness He is in control and we aren't. Her words brought so much comfort to me in that moment, and they have continued to bring me comfort throughout the loss of our daughter. Ali was able to go to the OR with me, but her shift ended before I woke up from surgery. She left me the sweetest note telling me she was praying for me and reminding me of the goodness of God and that He was grieving with me. When we tell my daughter's story, Ali is such an important part because God was given glory through her, even as she witnessed a stranger go through the most traumatic event of their life. We are so thankful for Ali. She was kind and calm, and Jesus was shining through her.
