You need compassion and empathy in this field, and Micha carries them like magic.
My son is a very sickly child. He was extremely congested, and the Doctor assigned Micha to help perform a deep nasal suctioning. Micha thoroughly explained what she would be doing while warning me that he may lose his breath. Micha was so wonderful with my son, given the circumstances.
A month later, we once again had a sick child in our hands. This time, I just assumed an aggressive form of the common cold, but something about my son's breathing seemed abnormal the night before, so we took him in just to be safe. Our little man was fine in the waiting lobby blowing raspberries, even smiling with Dr. F. To our surprise, Micha was our nurse again, and she recognized his name and greeted us with her smile, almost as if she knew us more personally. We talked as she did a breathing treatment for my son, providing her empathy that he was there once again. Micha said her goodbyes when she noticed my son had a sudden change in his respirations. She walked back in, set a timer, counted his respirations (64), and started the timer again (62). She contacted Dr. F immediately, who decided it was best for him to head to the ER. He was suffering from RSV, adenovirus, and Rhinovirus. If Micha had not recognized this sudden change in his respirations we would be telling a different story today. It’s the attention to detail that makes Micha such an outstanding nurse. We can’t thank her enough for the quantity of heart she puts into her work. You need compassion and empathy in this field, and Micha carries them like magic. Thank you!
