She takes the extra time and effort to truly get to know her patients and be another line of support. Providers are constantly telling our team how they enjoy collaborating with her.
Emily Turner is the definition of "MUSC Excellence." She is constantly going above and beyond, not only with her patients but also with the providers she works with each and every day. She takes pride in individualizing patient care, and this does not go unnoticed. She cares for a wide range of patients including heart transplant, lung transplant, CT surgery, advanced heart failure, adult congenital heart defects, LVADs, women's health, and GI medicine. Many of the patients require additional monitoring post-infusion. She uses this time to further educate and provide emotional support to our patients.

On numerous occasions, her services have kept patients out of the hospital to celebrate Thanksgiving and the Holidays with their loved ones. She has drastically decreased our readmission rates. She also takes her blinders off and will assist in handling any other questions or issues a patient may present, even if it requires coordination with providers outside of our service line.

Emily Turner strives "to say YES" no matter the situation. Emily understands the impact that her infusions have on our patients. A patient having the ability to squeeze into her already tight schedule can be the deciding factor as to whether they are admitted or stay out of the hospital. Her patients enjoy coming to their appointments, not only to have their medicine infused, but to spend quality time with this nurse. She takes the extra time and effort to truly get to know her patients and be another line of support. Providers are constantly telling our team how they enjoy collaborating with her. They specifically tell us how easy she is to work with and how responsive she is to their same day requests.

The patients genuinely care about her. If another nurse is covering for her, the patients make it a point to ask about her. They also are sad that she is not there, as they have been looking forward to seeing her. She has great clinical assessment skills. This nursing tool is crucial considering the amount of high-alert drugs she infuses. She appropriately reacts to stressful situations, such as infusion reactions. She clearly communicates with the provider to ensure the patients receive the highest quality care. She has great communication skills with ancillary departments, outpatient GI medicine, and cardiovascular clinics.

Over the last year she has doubled the productivity for our infusion suite with no administering the infusions. She works with prior coordinating care, service recovery, and any other administrative duties that the infusion clinic requires. She is one of the only infusion nurses that does not have administrative support. Overall, she is a complete joy to work with. A common theme all CTMs mention is her positive personality. Emily is always smiling and always willing to lend an extra hand. We are so fortunate to have her as part of our team!
