I have been an RN for 20 years and have never been hospitalized except for a short post-op recovery. Spending a few days on "the other side" was very intimidating for me. As a nurse, I'm able to see orders for my patients and know that their healthcare needs are being addressed by the physician's orders, etc. As a patient, I relied on the nursing staff to keep me informed. No one did that better than Sarah. She announced herself each time she entered the room and explained what she was going to do and why. She made sure the tests I was expecting were ordered and communicated effectively with the ancillary staff and units. She did little things, like ensuring I always had a fresh cup of ice! Sarah is a true asset in my eyes.
