He did what he said in the time frame that he promised; he coordinated all the services in a very professional manner, and he delivered both potential bad news as well as good news in a kind and caring manner; he really made us feel like we mattered!
My husband came into the Cardiac Cath lab with probable blockages. He presented with a completely healthy picture but had been experiencing chest pain with exertion for the last 5 weeks. We thought he would just have a couple stents and go home that day. Well, the news was not that favorable, for he ended up having three severe blockages that would require bypass surgery. He was admitted to the CDU, where he proceeded to stay for the next 5 days (because the hospital census was full). He had a wonderful experience on that floor with all the nurses, techs, and phlebotomists that he encountered; they were very kind, skilled, and caring.
But Michael, the NP with cardiology, was really our solid rock during the tumultuous rollercoaster we were on! My husband's pre-op CT showed not only a gigantic liver mass but also bilateral thyroid nodules. We were turfed from cardiology to general surgery to oncology in a matter of days and the only constant source of information and intervention was from Michael. The end result, PRAISE GOD, was a clean bill of health from cancer and plans for a minimally invasive approach to K's heart blockages rather than the traditional bypass procedure. When this plan was finally established, Michael facilitated K's discharge home for a few days to refresh and reset prior to his heart surgery; even this was done in an expedited manner because Michael really understood what we had gone through and needed!
Though we were very frustrated with the inability to move to a regular room in a timely manner and the multiple physicians that we saw who never really knew what the others were doing, we were very satisfied with your entire nursing and ancillary staff at St. Thomas! I have been an RN for 40 years and can say that I am proud of our profession from this experience!
