Clinical Skills:
Ask anyone and they will say Beth Morgan is nothing short of exceptional. This can be seen in her critical thinking and clinical skills. I know she is always someone I can count on in any situation. Working in the ICU, we see a lot of changes in patients' conditions throughout the day. She is always quick to assess and relay information to the care team in a manner that conveys urgency. It is also a testament to her skill that she is trusted as a resource nurse on our unit. She is always available to help educate new staff members, and has also precepted her fair share of new grads.

Compassionate Care:
There are many examples of Beth’s outstanding care, but I’ll try to pick just one. Recently, we had a young patient who had been on our unit for many weeks. Having visitor restrictions was very hard for him since he has a lot of loving family and friends. He also was getting a little stir crazy. I won’t forget his reaction when Beth said “let’s get you some fresh air.” She bundled him up in blankets and wheeled him out to the creek, where he could get fresh air and spend time with many loved ones. He was tearful when telling this story. It was such a small gesture, but he will surely remember it. She did this same thing the next day as well. In an environment where we can’t always give a happy prognosis, or even tell someone what might happen in the next hour, this act of service alleviated the anxiety this patient and family were experiencing.

Exemplary Service:
I will always remember my very first code with Beth. Even though it was years ago, her actions still stick with me to this day. While so many of us were working for hours on a patient, running to the blood bank to get blood and others to get weighted bags, and consoling family members, she was everywhere. Though this was a bit of time ago, she still displayed this same gusto.

Continued Commitment:
What Beth gave during the waves of the pandemic will never be forgotten. We were coming into a situation where we could do everything we knew to do, and it still may not be enough. But Beth was there to remind all of us of what we could do. She reminded us that washing our patients’ hair was something that could soothe them. She reminded us that the simple act of holding hands took almost no time but was perhaps the most comfort our patients would get. She gave patients their dignity. She learned about their families, their favorite songs, their pets. But most of all, she reminded us that we were in this together and that she would be there for us. She gave us breaks, she brought us treats. She was a safe space for the staff to grieve all that we lost. Beth is an outstanding nurse, coworker, and friend.
