Julian was placed in our room to complete his ECMO training. At first, we are always nervous when getting a new-to-us nurse. Julian quickly jumped in and started asking questions about how our daughter, H, liked things done and what comforted her. This immediately calmed our worries as a parent because it felt like he truly cared about H as an individual. He would interact with H and even knew the basic sign language signs. He went above and beyond on teaching her new signs and encouraging her to communicate. Julian took H's interests into consideration, such as music and Frozen. He would sing her favorite songs to her, as well as find new songs for her to learn. By shift 2 you could find H sharing her favorite toys with him, giving him an Olaf sticker and trying to snuggle up to him. Each shift after, H is excited to see Julian and communicate with him. She loves that he is able to understand her when most struggle. Julian also makes sure H always looks her best. He will comb her hair, wash her face, and find a cute bow to put in her hair. The little things that make H look like herself are truly impactful to us as parents. Julian really cares for the whole patient. Not only is he a great nurse, he is a fierce advocate, encourager and overall phenomenal person! We love Julian!
