I will forever picture Kettia standing at my mother's side, comforting her when I inevitably look back at this time when my mom is gone.
I was blessed enough to have Kettia care for my mother. My mother has been diagnosed with cancer, yet is unable to get a PET scan due to her heart being in AFIB, a side effect from a cancer that she has battled once before. After two months of being bounced between Parker and Porter, Mom was admitted into the ICU. None of us knew where she was until we got up there - it was a scary, frightening time - the only experience we had in ICU was when her mother passed, so we got a little worried that she wouldn't come out.

Those fears were instantly dashed the first time I met Kettia. I have never in my life laughed inside of a hospital room and felt like I was sitting in my mother's house with an old friend, catching up. We have never met before, but I swear Kettia knows more about me than some of my own friends because Kettia was there for me when I saw my mother struggle with her cognitive memory after multiple strokes. Never ONCE did Kettia pressure my mom or make her feel like she was wrong for not knowing something as easy as her birthday or what city she lived in. Morale was at an absolute LOW, and Kettia absolutely stepped up and made sure that my mom was not only comfortable but safe in struggling. I will forever picture Kettia standing at my mother's side, comforting her when I inevitably look back at this time when my mom is gone.

My mom was downgraded from the ICU after a week -- Kettia was off shift, and I have not stopped thinking about how I couldn't wait to get to catch up with such a sweet and caring soul as Kettia and kept reminding mom that "Kettia's gonna be so mad you didn't say bye!" Today, we got the news that my mother is terminal. At the start of the week, my mother will be at home with her family surrounding her. I hope that Kettia sees how much her kind and caring bedside manner can brighten up such a scary place as the ICU. Thank you to every hand that helped my mother get her answers. God bless every single one of you.
