Shelby was nominated by veterans and a colleague. One Veteran stated she is a hard-working young lady and "timely with my care and" a joy to talk with.

Another stated, that "the care provided was greater than expected and clearly exceeded that of most. Definitely felt she was a part of my family."

A colleague shared this message about Shelby: "She is a very compassionate young nurse who cares for each Veteran as if they are one of her own family members. For example, one of her patients had been placed in hospice, and during his last few days of life, she made sure he was comfortable and made it a priority to make sure he was not alone due to his family not being present. She called his son regarding the music he liked and played this music for him."

Shelby stated, "This was a very big surprise! I have a lot to learn in my career, and I am eager to continue to learn."
