Her positive personality and the encouragement she gave helped me through the day.
Although some may see it as a small reason to be at the hospital, my husband and I were here with our four-month-old, who was admitted for throwing up a lot and had an episode of turning blue. During our stay, we met many people, and NS was given a lot of information. During this, I had to stop breastfeeding and only give by bottle. I took that harder than I probably should have. During our stay, we had to leave our six-year-old daughter with family. Lauren McMahan didn’t know (or maybe she did) and could see I was on the line of breaking. This was the tip of the scale of so much going on. I was struggling to stay okay. I hadn’t slept in two days straight, had barely eaten, and was scared. Lauren came in every single time smiling and so happy. She reminded us, specifically me that I’m a good mom and would be okay. Every time she walked in our door, she encouraged me. She didn’t know that day I was struggling the most. I had already cried in the bathroom several times, and I was beyond overwhelmed. Her positive personality and the encouragement she gave helped me through the day. I was struggling to sleep because I was afraid of another episode. She reminded me that they were watching her O2 from out there and that if anything happened, they would most likely see it even before me. She assured me that my daughter was safe and in good hands by our team. I was able to lay down and sleep after getting the reinforcement I needed. All the nurses have been amazing, but she stood out to our family. She is the nurse who helped allow me to take a breath and allow myself to relax. I didn’t get a chance to thank her before we left. I hope she knows how much she impacted me while I was here.
