Liz truly listened to J's story; she took time to learn about him, trying to make him comfortable by understanding his autism and how his new diagnosis was making his interactions even more challenging.
My 25-year-old son with severe autism was admitted to the ICU with a stroke. By the time we got to MICU, it was 2 am. We are 2 hours away from home. I had not slept for 24 hours. Liz did a wonderful job in communicating what was going on and helping us to understand the plan. Liz truly listened to J's story; she took time to learn about him, trying to make him comfortable by understanding his autism and how his new diagnosis was making his interactions even more challenging. Liz showed kindness and warmth in making J feel safe. She was proactive in his care. She made me feel comfortable while we were here and made me a priority, too. She got me in touch with services to get help. Liz was able to help me find a place to stay while I was in town. She was absolutely wonderful. Liz saw more than just a body with a disability and a new diagnosis. She treated him as a real person, and it meant so much more than words can say.
