I walked by the DAISY Award box multiple times thinking to myself, I really want to pay it forward to that certain special nurse. Every single nurse here is doing God's work. After a few days go by, and a few surgeries, then we were blessed with the most compassionate and clever RN we had ever met. Our visit to Kadlec was unexpected. Our transition into understanding what was happening to my aunt was brutal and her pain I have no words for. This RN was such a bright light in a dark situation. I knew she was special when I met her, and her main concern was the overall comfort of my aunt. She took the extra time and effort to ensure my aunt received a proper cleaning from head to take with a warm shampoo cap, lotion, and deodorant. My aunt kept saying, "Oh, that feels so good." All the while, with a super smile on her face, the RN talked with my aunt. The RN got to know her and gained her trust. And a nickname of "Spit Fire." Three days of loving care we got. Never underestimate the added steps of "training" every day. This RN had a trainee with her and she was training him to be as awesome as she is. It is clear why this trainee was with this RN. Our family has leaned on her in the most desperate way, under the most desperate situation of life and or death of a loved one.
