My husband was transported to Mayo following a medical emergency in the field during a military exercise. This emergency turned into a surgery and a stay on the 5C unit. During the roller-coaster of the unknown, being scared and nervous, Rachel was grounding. My husband was scared, and she was calming, in moments of the unknown she was knowledgeable, and he was anxious, she was a bit of laughter to up his spirits. Every concern was heard, repeated, and investigated. Rachel showed my husband and me exceptional compassion, empathy, and care. She kept me informed on every bump and was able to calm me when my husband struggled to wake up from surgery.  

There's the standard care you would expect from anyone in charge of your health and healing, and then there's someone who takes that personally and that is Rachel. This isn't our first scare with a medical emergency that led to an extended hospital stay, however this is the first time I've really felt that undoubted trust and ease that my husband was in the best hands I could ever imagine! Rachel treated my husband as if he was her own family, and I could not thank her enough! Mayo is renowned for their care and Rachel is the outstanding example of why.

Thank you, Rachel, for taking your responsibility to heart and thank you for making a scary time easier. Thank you for recognizing that, as a loved one, I was scared and acknowledging that. Thank you for seeing my husband as a person! We appreciate you beyond expression! I may not be able to fully voice the difference she made for us, but I hope this nomination and the meaning behind the DAISY Award can speak for us!
