The patient, through the amazing work of these two nurses, survived the transport and made it to surgery and, at last check, was still alive.
Keith was the primary nurse for a very sick patient who was brought in by ambulance. This patient was complaining of bilateral foot pain but when Keith got him, he knew immediately the patient was very sick. As it would turn out, the patient was critically ill and had actually suffered an abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), which had ruptured. Upon hearing of this sick patient, John Taylor, who was working in a different part of the ER, quickly went to Keith's aide and assisted him in caring for this patient. The patient needed to be transferred immediately for cardiothoracic surgery, but there was no available critical care transport. John and Keith decided to step outside of their normal work scope and would go with the patient in the ambulance Code 3 to Riverside. The patient, through the amazing work of these two nurses, survived the transport and made it to surgery and, at last check, was still alive. These two are not only amazing, strong nurses but good human beings and deserve to be recognized for going above and beyond.
