Shakina goes above and beyond in her role daily. She approaches each day, challenge, and patient with a positive, solution-focused disposition. Even small actions demonstrate Shakina's immense care for her job and for her patients. For example, she answers every call with "Good morning, this is Shakina, how may I CARE for you?" This is true evidence of her caring nature and her wish to support any and all people she comes into contact with within the workplace. She provides extraordinary care for her patients, while also caring for her team. She is always approachable, willing to lend a hand, and always thinking critically about problems in order to determine the most appropriate solutions. Her presence among our Psych ED team has significantly improved our team's functioning. Shakina is always willing to step in where needed. Shakina speaks with patients and their families all day every day and does so with kindness, a true wish to listen, and an ability to communicate clearly that leaves patients and families at ease. Her communication with patients and families lets the community know that the people being treated here are being treated well. She approaches all patients with the same attitude and kindness that she approaches her colleagues and staff. She is a true asset to our psych ED team, our behavioral health department, and Cape Fear Valley as a whole. She is a true model of professionalism, empathy, and positive leadership. I am proud to work with her.

Shakina consistently shows up to every single shift pleasant, and kind, goes above and beyond for her patients and fellow coworkers, and has never once responded to any question with "I don't know." Her response is always "I will find out" or "I will take care of it." She answers every single phone call with "This is Shakina. How may I care for you?" She embodies what it means to be an RN, genuinely caring for all of her patients, their families, and all of the staff she comes in contact with. She is always thinking outside the box, helping the treatment team develop new ways to keep patients safe and help them thrive. I am a new physician here at this hospital system, and I can genuinely say, that Shakina has made my transition to this job not only smoother but exponentially more enjoyable. I cannot think of a better person to nominate for this award.
