I am deeply grateful for Heidi’s dedication and expertise. Her timely interventions and compassionate care made a significant difference during a critical time for my husband and our family.
I am writing to express my sincere gratitude for the exceptional care provided by one of your outstanding nursing staff members in the 2H Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
My husband has been a patient in the ICU since he was brought to MedStar during a crisis situation via ambulance. On our first day in the ICU, we met Heidi, a clinical nurse, whose compassion and professionalism had a profound impact on us. My family and I were overwhelmed and distraught due to my husband’s health crisis. Heidi immediately recognized our distress and offered us comfort in the waiting room. She reassured us, saying, “As a family, your loved one will be taken care of in the ICU. We have some very good nurses and doctors, but I need for you all to make sure you take care of yourselves.” Her words provided immense relief, allowing us to leave the hospital and get some much-needed rest.
Additionally, she provided us with a direct contact number to the ICU, encouraging us to call anytime for updates on my husband’s condition.
One day in the ICU, my husband was in severe distress, struggling to breathe and coughing vigorously. Unable to locate his assigned nurse, I sought help from Heidi. She promptly assessed the situation, suctioned his trachea tube, cleaned and replaced his Tracheostomy Tube Inner Cannula, and attended to the dried blood and mucus around his neck. Her swift and thorough actions were crucial in stabilizing my husband’s condition.
Throughout the day, Heidi continued to provide exceptional care. Later, when my husband experienced another episode of vigorous coughing and mucus discharge, she once again responded immediately. Despite not finding a Trachea Suctioning kit, she utilized the Turbo Closed Suctioning System to ensure his comfort and safety.
