Austin went above and beyond with his level of care towards not only our daughter but also us (her parents). He was on top of the orders and paid extra attention to the small things. He knew what her normal vital signs were, and at one point, when her heart rate was a little elevated, he came in to recheck her. He checked her temperature as well as her comfort and stress level. He paid attention to the small details. He knew when our daughter was more fussy than usual and would work to ensure he got her comfortable. He also did the small things that were not specifically part of his job but knew that they mattered. One morning we did not receive syrup with our breakfast tray so he worked to get syrup. He took out the trash when housekeeping had not been around yet. I’ve always heard the saying, “It’s the small things,” but you don’t always realize how true that is until you are the parent of a sick newborn. Austin made our admission easier by going way above and beyond his job title and duties. We are grateful.
