Becca would bring me a warm blanket without me even asking every day we were there because she knew I was always cold in the center.
My husband, R, was recently diagnosed with ITP. His platelets have gone as low as less than 5,000 or virtually undetectable. While negotiating this new and scary condition, we have spent many hours and days getting platelets transfused in the cancer center. I cannot say enough about the care we have received from every nurse that works there. Not one person goes by us without asking if there is anything they can get us or do for us.

One nurse in particular befriended us, spending time to get to know us. Her name is Rebecca, but they call her Becca. R loves to drink coffee. Becca remembered every time how he liked his coffee, two Splenda and three creams. Any time we were in the center, she would come see us to see how he was doing, even if he wasn't her patient. She cheered with us when his numbers were good and commiserated with us when we would return the next day, and his numbers had tanked again. She would make sure to take blood from his IV for his count after treatment so he didn't have to have another poke.

Becca would bring me a warm blanket without me even asking every day we were there because she knew I was always cold in the center. The concern and care we received were just heartwarming. These nurses give not only their skill but also their kindness and heartfelt concern to a lot of people suffering greatly in the Cancer Center. We witnessed this every time we were there.

Note: This is Becca's 2nd DAISY Award!
