My father passed away this afternoon, and I am grateful for the care Kenneth provided him, even for one night.
My father spent the last 2 ½ weeks in ICU at Inova Alexandria Hospital. During that time, we saw dozens of nurses, techs, and specialists, but rarely the same person twice. I spent the night with my father the entire 2 ½ weeks, so I am certain of this.
One of the nights, my father was under mental distress (possibly from the medications) and physical duress while moving the BiPAP mask. Thank God Kenneth was working that night as he quickly and calmly got my father to be less stressed and accept putting the BiPAP on. While there were some other nurses and techs who were good, he clearly stood out and made an impression so positive that I wanted to nominate him for a DAISY Award. The entire night Kenneth had this room under his watch, he responded quickly when audible alarms went off, scheduled tasks like medications needed to be administered, etc. By far the most professional and caring nurse we had over the course of 2 ½ weeks.
Kenneth even stopped by to check on my dad a few days later, although he was not scheduled in that section. To me, Kenneth demonstrated a strong commitment to patient care, was extremely knowledgeable about all the equipment and protocols, and had a wonderful “bedside manner” presence. Professional and compassionate. My father passed away this afternoon, and I am grateful for the care Kenneth provided him, even for one night.
