I was recently admitted to Boone Hospital during an active heart attack. I've been fortunate in my life to have never stayed in a hospital. Consequently, I was not terribly familiar with protocols and processes. I was equally unfamiliar with the questions I should be asking. I was treated very well by everyone during my stay, but one nurse stood out more than all the others. Each nurse had a particular thing they excelled at, some were kind, some were very attentive, and others knew their job very well. Jonna was the gold standard. Jonna was assigned to me on my last day. I only learned after my release that she worked in a floater position and was not routinely assigned to any one floor. Still, the comprehension she seemed to have about the administration of medicine, hospital protocol, information about what I need to do next, and her coaching with regard to caring for myself upon release just seemed on the next level. She listened when I spoke and was responsive to each question. I know she was busy, but I never waited long for anything. I found her to be kind, patient, and knowledgeable. She genuinely seemed to be in the perfect job for her. By the time we finished reviewing the discharge paperwork, often going over certain sections a few times, I felt the anxiety I was trying to mask dissipate. I felt that I was in great hands and had the confidence I could do all that was required. Boone County has assembled an incredible team of caregivers. I am thankful to everyone who helped me, but Jonna seems to be cut from a significantly different cloth. She is a credit to the hospital and the nursing profession.
