Although my miscarriage was traumatic, the empathy, composure, confidence, and resilience Suki showed me for almost 9 hours allowed me to trust her with my life!
I entered the emergency room at Norton Hospital downtown, barely able to stand. I was 9 weeks pregnant and experiencing a miscarriage. I was so scared. I was weak and was sure I would faint from the excruciating pain I was experiencing. My name was called to be placed in a room, and I had no idea what to expect next.
In the midst of my pain and grief, I had the pleasure of having a nurse named Soukaina, or Suki, as she preferred to be called. Suki was so caring, patient, and knowledgeable about my care. I had a moment where I lost consciousness and Suki was right there when I came to, reassuring my mother and I that I would be well taken care of. I could tell Suki was extremely busy that day. Maybe all of my complications threw her behind, but Suki kept a smile on her face the entire time and never made me feel rushed when a need arose.
I came in around 1845 and wasn’t discharged until after 0400. Suki was never frustrated with me nor did she ever make me feel like I was too much for her workload at the time. She went above and beyond every time she stepped foot in the room. Nursing is a career that only those with a real desire to help those in need truly succeed at. Suki embodies everything a great nurse should encompass. Although my miscarriage was traumatic, the empathy, composure, confidence, and resilience Suki showed me for almost 9 hours allowed me to trust her with my life! And for that, I am forever thankful. Norton has a true gem on their team. Thank you, Soukaina.
