I want to recognize Christine Reyes due to her compassionate care for one of our patients. This patient was visiting from another country when he became ill with his progressing disease, which caused him to endure a lengthy stay in the ICU here for over two months. Due to certain circumstances, he has been unable to return home. Chrissie showed great compassion, enthusiasm, care, concern, support, and encouragement for this patient during every shift she took care of him. She suggested and coordinated his first trip outside to receive his MD-prescribed and ordered a "daily dose of sunshine." She discussed the plan with the MD and the patient, coordinated the collaborative team together, and brought him outside. Needless to say, the patient was extremely happy, and the whole staff was excited to be a part of this special event. Since then, she has taken him outside many times and has encouraged other nursing staff to do so as well. She has taken photos, sent them to his family, and set up his "going away" party with the staff so everyone could say goodbye. This special attention she gave this patient changed his entire stay with us for the better - she gave him a glimmer of hope for better days and made him feel human, if only for a few hours a week. She has been a great example of what a PFCC nurse should be like, and I am proud to work with her.
