Hanna was always so kind and gentle to our daughter. We would often hear her humming and gently singing to her, and she loved to be patted and bathed by Hanna as well.
When our daughter was first transferred to UCSF, we had a lot of unanswered questions. We would often have a nurse and it was not surprising if that nurse never returned. A lot told us of people that she scared them. When we first met Hanna, she was very calm and unbothered. She was eager and quick to help our daughter and she truly was a breath of fresh air. Hanna was also one of the very first nurses to encourage holding our daughter and showed no hesitation at all. After this first shift with Hanna we were so pleased, but we had the feeling that she would not return like other nurses. The next day, when we arrived, we were so excited to see Hanna in her room. We walked into the room, and Hanna had calm music playing for her, and she reported to us how great our daughter was doing that morning. A few shifts later, Hanna decided to join our primary team, and we were so thrilled. Hanna was always so kind and gentle to our daughter. We would often hear her humming and gently singing to her, and she loved to be patted and bathed by Hanna as well. Hanna also put our daughter in her first outfit ever and even gathered up some clothes for her that she could carefully wear with her lines. The day that our daughter passed away, Hanna was not working, but she still came to be there with us. She was by our side when our daughter took her last breaths, and it truly felt like all of her family was with us. Even though it isn't our daughter's blood family, we always say her UCSF Family knows her better than her blood relatives. Our team would not have been complete without Hanna. She never showed us fear, and she always faced each challenge with grace.
