What is the DAISY Foundation?
An acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune SYstem, The DAISYFoundation was formed in November, 1999, by the family of J. Patrick Barnes who died at age 33 of complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP). The nursing care Patrick received when hospitalized profoundly touched his family. Once again, on behalf of The DAISY Foundation™ and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), we invite your organization to submit your DAISY Award® Nurses and DAISY Team Award Honorees as nominees for the 4th annual Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.

The DAISY Foundation is encouraging nurses seeking to impact and improve treatment of patients with auto-immune diseases or cancer to apply for a research or evidence-based practice project grant awarded by the Foundation. The deadline to submit a letter of intent for a J. Patrick Barnes Grant is Wednesday, September 5, 2018.

The DAISY Foundation and Creative Health Care Management came together because of a shared love of the work of nurses and a keen sense of the importance of nursing care to patient wellbeing. At the DAISY Foundation, we have long wondered why nurses have such a hard time seeing the full value of their work. Creative Health Care Management, a consulting firm staffed almost entirely by nurses, has been able to provide us with some eye-opening answers.
