Right when Lori walked into the room, she brought a warm blanket. She anticipated A would be chilly even before A realized it.
My spouse and I came in to have knee surgery. A is always very nervous about hospitals and medical care because A is gender non-binary. Lori completed the initial interview and when it came to the part about A's double mastectomy Lori talked in matter-of-fact terms and was sensitive to A's circumstances. When we come in for medical care you never know what the reaction might be, but Lori showed compassion.
Lori also involved me in the preparation for surgery. We were the center of the care provided. Right when Lori walked into the room, she brought a warm blanket. She anticipated A would be chilly even before A realized it. A also has tough veins for IVs. Lori made A comfortable for the procedure and when she couldn't get the IV, she didn't blame it on A's veins. Lori said she and the vein weren't working together. I liked that! She got another resource, and we had an IV lickity split. Lori, thank you for all you do. Alternative families appreciate your ability to treat all with respect and honor.
