Beth was working as the night supervisor when a young patient who had been on comfort care passed away. The family was devastated and heart broken. They had made no funeral arrangements and expressed to staff the difficulty they had to even think about making arrangements. They also had concerns about the cost of the funeral arrangements, as they had limited resources. Beth went above and beyond her duties that night as supervisor. She spent time with the family, talking with them and discussing what their wishes were for a funeral for their loved one. She then took the time to call every funeral home in the area and inquire as to which funeral home was the least expensive. One funeral home she spoke to actually agreed to provide funeral services at their cost which helped to relieve much of the burden off the family.

Beth advocates for all patients no matter what role she has for the day. She is a natural leader in the Emergency Department, and when she is working as a supervisor. I feel a great amount of comfort knowing she is on the job. She is compassionate, a patient advocate, she is patient and family-focused as well as a supportive member of the health care team. Beth is passionate about her job as a nurse and has superior clinical expertise.

Thank you for being part of our lives Beth, and for sharing your gift.
