I really wanted to express my gratitude for the manner in which we were treated during our 2 week ordeal at GSMC. We started out in minor emergency then on to ER. We were quickly admitted to the hospital and when I went septic, a team of eight nurses swept in and rushed me up to my room in less than 20 minutes. We were there for 6 days. Dr J and Dr A were so helpful after surgery to get us ready to go home. We did not want to stay in rehab/nursing home another 6 weeks as one physician wanted. They gave us the tools we needed to accomplish that and my recovery has been very good.

A special thanks needs to go out to Michael Orman who came up with the diagnosis on our second night in the hospital. He knew what it was. Michael and my wife worked with Dr J to come up with Necratizing Fachiatis or flesh eating bacteria. NF can eat flesh at 3 cm per hour. Delay in diagnosis or misdiagnosis leads to amputation or death. Michael made a tough call and I credit him with saving at the least my right arm and maybe my life.

I will be forever in his debt for taking care of my wife while she dealt with something that was catastrophic for her. I was unconscious for four days and she was left to deal with everything alone. Michael sat with her during my surgery and got her a recliner and a blanket so she could rest while I was in recovery.

Michael should be commended with the highest possible reward. He is a very special Nurse. He went over and above what I imagine even an excellent nurse would do.
