She loved what she did. Whenever she was working, she would always put other people’s needs in front of her own.
A DAISY celebration was held in memory of Ruby Espina, RN on 6T.  Ruby passed away last month, and her co-workers wanted to remember her with a DAISY Award.  Following is their testimony that Ruby truly touched their lives and the lives of her patients:

“Ruby Espina was a role model for this unit.  Her job performance exemplified the mission, vision, and values of the SJHS.  Ruby stood up for quality, and her patients adored her. She delivered excellent care to her patients. She was highly spiritual and non-judgmental.  Ruby died on 10/5/09, unfortunately, and may her soul rest in peace. Maybe this award can go to her family.”

“Ruby was the type of nurse who made sure her patients’ needs were met at all times. She dedicated her life to her profession. Even though she is no longer with us, her memory will live on forever.”

“Ruby was truly what a nurse should be, always kind, compassionate, caring, and efficient. She always thanked the staff when she left for all their help. She truly was reverent, full of integrity, wisdom, creative, and dedicated. We on 6T feel her loving spirit always.”

“Ruby was such an amazing nurse. She loved what she did. Whenever she was working, she would always put other people’s needs in front of her own. She’d always make sure her patients had everything, and if we were busy, she’d do it herself. We love you, Ruby!”

“No matter how busy the unit was, Mrs. Ruby always took care of her patients to the fullest.  She always went out of her way to make sure whatever her patients needed was done and more. Mrs. Ruby was the most loving, caring person (RN) that I have ever known. Very polite and respectful at all times. Compassionate and a loving Mother to so many of us here at St. John Oakland 6 Tower Dept. I truly admit and love to be around her.”

Ruby’s husband and family were present to receive her DAISY Sculpture, presented by Chris Fornal, Joe Tasse, and Dr. Berg.  They were very touched to receive the sculpture in Ruby’s honor.
