My husband has been in the ICU for months due to his IPF deteriorating lung condition and not being able to breathe. While he has been there, all of the employees in that unit have been exceptional and so very caring toward him. His lung allocation score is very high now so hopefully, a donor match will occur soon. There is one nurse that took the time to go above and beyond for him and her name is Misty Sommers. She found a beautiful photo of lungs, printed and framed it to go along with a kind note (which I taped to the frame) to give him. This small gesture of kindness from her was monumental to my husband. I cannot begin to tell you how much it has given him hope and how many comments we have received on it. The fact that she even found lungs with flowers on them is awesome as my husband is a florist. As you can imagine, this is a very stressful time for families going through this process and when someone takes the time to help keep a lung transplant candidate motivated, it certainly goes a long way. All of the nurses pray for him to get new lungs and Misty does as well. We are all hoping and praying that new lungs come his way soon.
Note: The patient received lungs the next day.
