My son was taken to ICU and Nichole was his nurse, I believe she was an angel sent to take care of not only my son but me also. She helped not only me but my entire family through the most tragic time in our lives. When doctors would come in to explain what was going on, she would take the time to help me understand. She was there every day with us until the end. She did not leave him the last 24 hours he was there. Nichole became part of my family because she was there for us in our time of need. I will forever be grateful to her.

Nichole gave my nephew much attention during his stay, but she also took the time to make sure that my sister (his mother) was resting and eating. She even made my sister protein shakes in hopes of helping her gain strength. We will forever be thankful for "our" nurse, Nichole Gist.

Nichole was truly Heaven sent to guide us through this ordeal. She was firm when she needed to be, had the right words to say and knew exactly what needed to be said and when to say them. She gave of her time and expertise and was with us until the very end. An angel walked the halls/rooms of ICU that weekend to touch the lives of this family and Nichole will always hold a special place in our hearts.

Nichole goes the distance to ensure she makes a special connection with each patient. Many times the family's grieving process starts while the patient is still in the unit, well before they take their last breath. Nichole has a special way of helping these families to find closure. In a beautiful act of love, Nichole prints the rhythm strip of a patient's heartbeat from the monitor and places it in a red blood tube to provide to the family as a gift of remembrance. After the patient has passed she gives this to the family members to take with them so that they can cherish the memory of their loved one. Nichole pours her heart and soul into her work, and it shows. If you visit the unit, you will find Nichole carrying out her daily duties, giving medication or administering treatments that the physicians order. However, you will also see Nichole painting a patient's fingernails, rubbing lotion on their hands and feet, fixing a patient's hair or feeding a patient their favorite ice cream. It's the little things people remember. The small acts of kindness that Nichole demonstrates will leave a lasting impression on patients and families for a lifetime.
