August 2026 Honoree
Zoe Worobel, RN
Our family is nominating Zoe for the DAISY Award because her flawless clinical instincts and deep compassion gifted us the opportunity to say a proper goodbye to C. When C flatlined, Zoe reacted instantly, initiating the code and starting the chest compressions that saved her life that night. While C was heavily sedated on a ventilator for nearly 11 days after that, Zoe’s presence on the night shift was a huge comfort to our family. We felt reassured that C was in excellent care when Zoe was there. She would take the time to talk to us, answer our questions, and hold compassion for the uncertainty that we all felt. When C was extubated, one of the first things she asked for was a Coca-Cola, which the hospital didn't carry. Zoe somehow tracked down a cold can from outside the unit just to bring her that small bit of joy. C told Zoe not to give up on her, and Zoe was a pillar of reassurance to C and our family, constantly comforting her and honoring her fighting spirit. When we knew the end was near, Zoe gently encouraged our family to turn the ICU monitors toward the wall, recognizing the need for us to focus entirely on being present with C in her final hours.
Thank you, Zoe, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
